Why I chose Social Work
I originally was attracted to social work when I met an 8 year old girl with Down's Syndrome. I enjyoed being with Angela and thought that I would like to work with children. When I entered undergraduate school, I was following that plan. Much to my surprise, I was more excited working with the older adult population rather than children.
I still am attracted to Social Work. After working with a variety of populations, I have learned that regardless of the population, the clients are in need of an advocate. It is important that every member of society has a voice and their needs are respected. I also like that Social Work is a flexible field, and we can wear many professional hats and work in a variety of settings. No two days are the same in this profession, and that makes it exciting and challenging.
